Dear Colleagues,
MSPG has been involved with the Fast ForWord program since
1998. We are finding that it is a valuable tool in the continuum
of treatment for speech and language disorders. To date we have
worked with over 100 students in Fast ForWord.
By design, this unique program can provide more exposure to
stimuli, a brain based reinforcement schedule, an attention
control feature, and modified speech than the human therapist.
However, it is the program, combined with the interaction of
the speech-language pathologist that provides the most effect.
We are finding that, if anything, we have been using Fast ForWord
too conservatively. Rather than a specific, deficit driven program,
it can be considered as an enhancement program. It has become
clear that the program will benefit many clients with a positive
speech-language history in a great variety of ways. The engineering
of the software, which incorporates sophisticated brain based
processing features of memory, attention, and sequencing, in
the context of language, is a winning and powerful synergy for
improving language performance across the board. The neural
synchrony obtained from the practice improves efficiency of
processing, and fluency in output, as it improves the brain
mechanism for precision in encoding auditory input.
Implemented as prescribed, with professional monitoring and
intervention, the Fast ForWord family of programs, provides
a unique and powerful intervention for those with speech and
language difficulties.
